The overall aim of the workshop is to introduce participants to the fundamental concepts, tools and techniques for the successful delivery of projects, specifically:

  • Define project management and its importance, and explain the critical skills required to manage projects effectively
  • Explain different types of projects and project management approaches
  • Outline the key stages of project management and recommended project management tools
  • Summarise key project management templates and resources
  • Practise project planning techniques
  • Learn techniques for actively engaging individuals and teams in meetings and workshops

The course tutor has successfully delivered major scientific, policy and IT projects in the public, private and voluntary sectors; has authored 4 book chapters on strategy, project management and business improvement; manages projects, programmes and portfolios; and was a member of the Technical Expert Group for development of 2 Graduate Apprenticeships (Project Management and Business Analysis).

The course fee includes the option to book a FREE 1 hour one to one session with the course tutor to get expert advice on project management, planning, governance, strategy, business improvement, discuss a specific problem, or have a general discussion, and this can be online or face to face at our Sighthill Campus in Edinburgh.

Who is this course for?

This short course is specifically for participants that have not undertaken previous project management training but are looking for their first step into project management, advice on how to build their project management skills, or to supplement their skillset with an understanding of project management fundamentals that can be applied in many contexts and to different industries/sectors

How you'll be taught and assessed

Delivery will be online, but will use a number of interactive tools such as Mentimeter and Miro to engage participants in a variety of exercises, including a focus on project planning.
