Course details 

As a healthcare professional, this course will enable you to critically assess clinical practices against national guidelines, enhancing your competency and confidence in delivering high-quality diabetes care.   1. Understanding diabetes across the lifespan – overview of diabetes pathophysiology, classification, and diagnostic criteria.
  2. Treatment Approaches – Exploring pharmacological and non-pharmacological diabetes management strategies.
  3. Prevention and Management of Acute and Long-term Complications.
  4. Psychosocial Aspects and Patient-Centred Care – Addressing the psychological impact of diabetes and promoting self-management strategies.

Learning outcomes of the course:

  1. Identify and interpret the clinical presentation of different types of diabetes mellitus.
  2. Explore individualised treatment plans that align with each patient’s diagnosis, lifestyle, and specific health needs.
  3. Evaluate targeted health education strategies to support self-management of diabetes among diverse client groups.
  4. Analyse acute and long-term complications of diabetes, proposing evidence-based strategies for their prevention and management.

The course commences on 4 June 2025.

How you'll be taught

This fully online course runs over four weeks, starting on 4 June, featuring three-hour interactive lectures each week. It combines expert-led teaching with self-directed study, which is accessible through a virtual learning environment (VLE) called Moodle. 

Assessments

This is a non-credit bearing module with no formal end-of-course assessment. However, you will complete a set  “of multiple-choice questions on Moodle at the end of the course to assess your understanding. A minimum pass rate of 50% is required to receive a Certificate of Completion.
