Nanomaterials and wastewater treatment
In an attempt to better understand the impact of nanomaterials on waste water treatment, the University will undertake a purposeful environmental hazard assessment, whereby the focus will be to assess pristine nanoparticles, nano-silver, to assess the potential impact of on the viability of bacterial communities in activated sludge wastewater and, if any, potential impact of nanoparticle accumulation. A bench scale study will be conducted in which real or artificial wastewater seeded with bacterial cultures are dosed with concentrations of silver nanoparticles and effects on overall bacterial activity are measured in dose dependent manner using portable respirometry (O2 consumption)
