Botanic Gardens Follow-on Innovation Voucher
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) would like to create a light show at its Edinburgh Garden during the dark winter months of November and December 2014 that will bring the gardens alive in the darkness. With a working title “Botanic Lights”, the show will allow visitors to walk through the Garden at dusk/evening, their path guided by sound, light and projection installations which will lead them to the Garden’s iconic Glasshouses and RBGE’s Victorian Temperate Palmhouse that will be lit to great effect which visitors can enjoy.
Following on from the original Innovation Voucher work, the client would like Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) to continue to use their expertise and experience to produce the storyline development and creative direction for the event. The RBGE aims to create a large scale event that will attract a family audience (numbering several thousand people) to the gardens for a unique and intriguing night time experience. The client intends this to be the first in a long running series of similar events that will be built on year after year to be run every November and have developed a five year business plan for the event. The intention is to raise the profile of the gardens, attract a new audience and provide a sustainable new revenue stream for the Gardens.
