A plug-in disk-Interface-process for the WSQL data access controller.
As part of the development of a disk based storage subsystem for a database machine, a disk interface process has been designed, exploiting parallel processing features of the transputer. In a step-by-step approach design-decisions are presented and justified, leading to an occam design, which is then transferred to an implementation in INMOS ANSI C. The paper discusses, how standard concepts in parallel processing (fair ALT, buffers) can be implemented using the inadequate language extensions of INMOS ANSI C. Plans for future developments of the disk interface process are outlined.
