Biography

Dr Elias Ekonomou is a Lecturer in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University affiliated with the Centre for Distributed Computing, Networks, and Security and The Cyber Academy.

Elias teaches at undergraduate and postgraduate level, namely at the GCHQ-certified MSc Advanced Security and Digital Forensics, and supervises honours, master’s and PhD students. Elias leads BSc Computing, a TNE course delivered in Myanmar (Burma) – a collaboration of Edinburgh Napier University and Info Myanmar College.

His research is centred on computer security, with a strong preference in lightweight applications and the contexts of IoT and health/social care. On this basis, he has transferred knowledge in the industry with KTP, consultancies and commercialisation projects.

Elias joined Edinburgh Napier in 2011 as a researcher in security for e-Health applications, he worked on numerous projects relating data security, privacy, identity and access rights in the context of health and social care. For his PhD (University of Salford, 2010), he designed a lightweight secure data transportation protocol for WSN/IoT. Moreover, he has 20 years professional experience in website development and system administration in Linux.

Elias is a full professional member of BCS (MBCS), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a former SE/RSE Enterprise Fellow.
