A part-time programme for nurses in Singapore to expand their knowledge and gain a critical approach to care provision.

Course summary

The BSc (Nursing) in Singapore is a significant programme within the School of Health and Social Care at Edinburgh Napier University. The University is well-established in the UK as a provider of pre- and post-registration nursing education across the four fields of practice, adult health, mental health, child health and learning disability.

This is a flexible programme of part-time study, which has been designed in consultation with practitioners, educationalists and profession leads in Singapore, to enable nurses to expand their knowledge whilst developing an inquiring, critical approach to care provision, and effective application of theory to practice.

During the 24-month programme the student will develop key communication and academic skills, critically reflect on their practice, and utilise the evidence base to evaluate care and implement innovative practice. The BSc is designed to be a cohesive and coordinated framework for learning, and has been developed to enhance the competence and graduate capabilities of nurses – thus enabling them to become more effective members of the multidisciplinary team in a dynamic healthcare environment.

The eight degree-level modules are designed to complement each other and provide a broad framework in which the student can develop their knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills to enable them to be able to lead and manage care across all care environments, from primary to tertiary. The modules have been developed with the Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) domains for registered nurses very much at the core, while seeking to guide students to gain a graduate-level awareness of what it means to be a professional nurse in terms of regulation, ethical practice, professional standards and accountability. In this way, graduates are empowered to be effective advocates for their clients and patients, and ensure that the care they provide is safe, evidence-based and ethical. There is also a strong focus on collaborative working with other professions, patient-centeredness and compassionate care.

This programme has been approved by the SNB and the Council for Private Education (CPE).
