Double delight on a Thursday night
Edinburgh Napier recorded a double success at major awards events in central Scotland last night.
In Edinburgh, the University scooped the award for Excellence in Digital Marketing at the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Annual Business Awards for our NapierNames celebration.
Meanwhile, across the M8 in Glasgow, our Centre for Offsite Construction & Innovative Structures won the Best Practice Sharing Award at the CeeD Annual Industry Awards.
The NapierNames initiative was launched after physical graduation ceremonies were cancelled for the second year in a row.
July last year saw the University launch a ‘city takeover’ to celebrate the success of hundreds of students who missed out on their traditional ceremonies due to the pandemic.
The names of the University’s graduates covered billboards, bus stops, a classic Edinburgh taxi and even a tram in tribute to those who had been unable to receive their degree at the Usher Hall.
Names from all six academic Schools were displayed across 18 billboards and 100 bus stops, accompanied by messages underlining the University’s pride in them and offering congratulations on their success.
The celebration initiative was lauded by judges at last night’s Edinburgh Chamber Annual Business Awards at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, which saw more than 140 entries whittled down to a select group of winners.
With a theme of “Celebrating Edinburgh”, this year’s Awards saw a focus on the importance – economic, cultural and social – of the city’s arts and culture including its world-famous festivals.
Liz McAreavey, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Chamber, said: “With more than 140 entrants across the categories, there was a tremendously high standard, and all of those organisations who made it through to short-listing should be very proud. In particular, we congratulate those who were winners on the night.”
Over in Glasgow, the winners of the CeeD Annual Industry Awards 2022 were announced at a ceremony attended by 600 guests.
CeeD is a recognised national body supporting a range of industry sectors in Scotland, bound together by a common aspiration to improve operational effciency, effectiveness and ultimately profit through peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.
Award categories range from Innovation and Best Practice Sharing to Cyber Resilience and Circular Economy. Two new categories were added this year to reflect how organisations have had to change or pivot their business due to the pandemic.
The University’s Centre for Offsite Construction & Innovative Structures won the Best Practice Sharing Award.
The Centre for Offsite Construction + Innovative Structures is a research centre within the Institute for Sustainable Construction which works with building industry partners to research and commercialise innovation.
