Director of Strategy and Planning and Secretary to Court

Biography

Michael was appointed Director of Strategy and Planning / Secretary to Court in August 2021 after joining the University in August 2019 as Interim Vice Principal, International and then a period as Interim Dean of the School of Computing and the School of Engineering and Built Environment.

He is responsible for the delivery of our strategy, through developing and managing synergies in the varied plans across the University, while also developing data driven future thinking by building strong external networks and leading on the University’s annual planning processes. This is a dual role which also has the responsibility as Secretary to Court.

Prior to joining Edinburgh Napier University, he spent his early career in the retail sector and was a Board Member of various UK retail businesses including Magnet Ltd, CP Hart, Wyevale Garden Centres Plc, and MFI Retail Ltd. He was also an Advisory Board Member of the Swedish furniture group, Nobia AB.

Subsequently, Michael held senior positions at the University of Manchester, the University of Bradford, Robert Gordon University, and the University of the Arts in London.

Michael graduated in Managerial and Administrative Science from the Business School of Aston University, Birmingham.

He is currently a Board Member of West Lothian College.
