Meet fourth year BDes (Hons) Interior and Spacial Design student Brodie, as he prepares to present his final year project at the 2024 Degree Show.
Hi, I’m Brodie and I’m a fourth year student studying Interior and Spatial Design here at Edinburgh Napier University, and I will be presenting at this years’ Degree Show.
Can you tell us a bit about your Degree Show project?
I'm currently looking at how to revitalise public spaces within a post COVID landscape. My projects based on the Union Canal between Harrison Road And Ashley Terrace, opposite Harrison Park West. I am utilising the condemned Ashley Terrace Boathouse to create a new commuter track, bookmarked by the bridges crossing the Union Canal, linking these two new boathouses for both commercial and hospitality purposes.
Are you excited for the Degree Show?
Yeah, absolutely. Excited and apprehensive, I can’t lie about it! But it's going to be a great opportunity to be able to showcase our projects. It’s kind of been the milestone we have all been working towards for the last four years so it’s a big deal!
What does the Degree Show mean to you?
The degree show allows us the ability to not only present our work to future possible employers but is also just a really lovely occasion for us to be able to showcase our work to our families and classmates, alongside the other design disciplines. Something that we can be proud of by the end of our unique and individual projects.
What message would you give to someone considering coming to the Degree Show?
I would say keep your mind open. There are a lot of amazing projects out there. There's tonnes of diversity, so there's a bit of everything for everyone, so please come along and support us. I’m looking forward to it!
Are you feeling prepared?
Great question! I’m getting there. It's a long process, so everything sort of comes together in the last month or so with constant changes and development. So yeah, it's a lot of work, but very rewarding to see something you’ve worked so hard on come together in the end.
